Cormier vs Miocic 2 Live : The Cormier vs Miocic 2 staff has made its predictions for UFC 241, and the consensus opinion is that Daniel Cormier will go 2-for-2 against Stipe Miocic and defend the heavyweight title that he famously took from Stipe last year. As for the co-main event, and perhaps a tad surprisingly, most of us are Cormier vs Miocic 2 to return from a three-year layoff to defeat Anthony Pettis. Only Tim Burke is picking Paulo Costa to upset Yoel Romero, and I assume that’s just to stave off the dreaded Bloody Elbow curse.
Both heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and challenger and former champion Stipe Miocic came in well under the 265-pound limit during the weigh-ins at the Hilton Anaheim for their rematch on Saturday night at Honda Center.
Cormier (22-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC), one of the first fighters on the card to weigh in, was 236.5 pounds, followed about 15 minutes later by Miocic (18-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC), who weighed 230.5.
“DC” was 9.5 pounds lighter than his weight for their first fight at UFC 226. Miocic was 12 pounds lighter than he was for that fight, which Cormier won by knockout at the 4:33 mark of the opening round to become a two-division champion. (He later vacated his light heavyweight title.)
Overall, the weigh-ins were relatively uneventful. The scheduled bantamweight bout between Manny Bermudez and Casey Kenney was changed to a 140-pound catchweight prior to the weigh-ins after mutual agreement between the fighters. Bermudez hit 140, while Kenney was 139. Including the agreed-upon catchweight, all fighters on the show made weight.
On Saturday, former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis faces Nate Diaz in a welterweight matchup. The two meet in the co-main event of the UFC 241 pay-per-view card.
Here is a look at the prop bets for the matchup.
The main card also features an intriguing bout between middleweight contenders Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa. Both fighters are targeting the strap held by Robert Whittaker, and the result of this fight will likely go a long way toward determining the next challenger.
MMA Fighting has UFC 241 results for the Cormier vs. Miocic fight card from the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., live blogs of the top fights, and live UFC 241 Twitter updates.
In the main event, UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier puts his belt on the line against former UFC champion Stipe Miocic in a rematch.
Cormier defeated Miocic via first-round KO in their previous meeting at UFC 226.
Nate Diaz makes his long-awaited return when he faces former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in the co-main event in a welterweight contest.
UFC 241 takes place tonight at Honda Center in Anaheim. The main card streams on ESPN+ pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and UFC Fight Pass. With this being a three-round fight and the fighting styles and resiliency of the two competitors, I would expect this one to go the full 15 minutes. Pettis’ best path to a stoppage victory is a spectacular knockout, but Diaz has only been stopped once in his career by KO. As for Diaz, he has a strong ground game, but he rarely takes the fight to the mat on his own and I suspect that Pettis will want to keep this one standing. The odds aren’t high for a decision, but it’s not too risky of a proposition to think the fight will go the distance.
UFC 241 will see Daniel Cormier defend his heavyweight title in a rematch against Stipe Miocic, and Anthony Pettis will meet Nate Diaz in a crunch welterweight clash in the co-main event at the Honda Center in Anaheim California on Saturday.
Diaz hasn’t fought in three years, but the pedigree of the 34-year-old submission specialist is undeniable.
